Senior Exhibition / Hearme

Press Release: In Hearme, Keely Melton explores her personal identity as a hard of hearing individual. From a young age, she dealt with multitudes of hearing problems that led to hearing aids in her teen years. She quickly realized that many people around her didn’t know how to respond to her being hard of hearing. Hearme is her chance to show others how different things really are for her. Through visual interpretations of her disability, Melton strives to create discourse as to how the world can become a more accessible place to not only those who are hard of hearing, but for anyone that needs it.

InCompass / Group Client

This was a project I worked on with two other designers. We worked with the group InCompass, formerly the I.D.E.A.S. Council, which strives to create diversity in the outdoor scene. This statement is from their informational powerpoint: "The I.D.E.A.S. Council was initiated in December of 2020. The acronym stands for inclusion, diversity, equity, access, and safety, and was created to increase participation and representation of BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, and persons with disabilities in our region’s outdoor recreation scene." The assignment included different logo versions and a very brief style guide.

School Work / Rewind: Back to Basics

During my time at ETSU, I took a display and package design class. For our second project, we were tasked to create a faux brand selling some sort of food product to be in a bar form, much like a granola bar. I chose to create Rewind, my own twist on a retro fruited chocolate bar. Based on my tagline, I created a simple design to intrigue my customers and stand out on the shelves. The following photos are the chocolate bar design itself as well as the point of purchase display design.

 Freelance / The Sour Stash

The following design was created for a client to use as an Instagram profile picture. This account is used by the client to rate different craft brews (mostly sour beers) and post about his local beer findings for his following. The client requested these two specific colors of blue and something that would stand out against other accounts that are performing a similar action.

 School Work / Let Grow

The Let Grow brand was created to serve as a monthly plant subscription box in which customers can receive a new plant based on their gardening skill level each month. Following are the full and condensed versions of the logo. These colors were used to try and offset the large amount of green that is used in multiple other plant subscription boxes and gardening brands.

 School Work / Saturn

Saturn is a piece I created in my Illustration class at ETSU. The creative brief outlined an open-ended collage design that needed to be created around a quote that we chose ourselves. The quote I chose was Kate Chopin's "Her mouth was a fountain of delight". I kept with a lighter design to complement how I interpreted the feel of the quote itself. I thoroughly enjoy creating collage pieces although I don't get to do it frequently.

Internship / Burgin Remodeling + Plumbing

During my time at Coley's, I spent a lot of hours working on different logo designs. Below is that of Burgin Remodeling + Plumbing. The client wanted a new logo design so they could update the signage on their buildings and vehicles as their customer base was growing pretty rapidly. It was specifically asked that the type of piping they use in their business is at least referenced in the design in some way. This design ended up being placed on a trailer, truck, signage, and stickers.

Special Topics / Special Education: A Crash Course in Exceptional Children

In my junior year at ETSU, I took a special topics class that focused on the design and production of zines. Upon getting the prompt for an informational or educational zine, I chose to tackle the topic of special education. My mom has been a special education teacher at the same school in my hometown for over thirty years and she especially guided me in this process. Following is the final layout as a whole, as well as the individual pages in the printed zine. There are some discrepancies between the two due to receiving feedback after the final printed version was made.
